On Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, former Cowboys star and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin opened up with his trademark humor about how he spent his first $1 million paycheck. Irvin recalled leaving the check prominently on his table during his bachelor days, so that when women entered his room, they’d immediately notice it and think, “That’s your check.” He jokingly acted out the scene, complete with pretend striptease movements, to applause and laughter.

He added that while his financial advisors were urging him to “Send that check… we’re losing,” he was feeling confident — saying, “I’m winning.” The moment painted a vivid picture of how sudden wealth changed his life and approach to dating, back when he was growing up in what he dubbed “Brokeville” in Florida.

Despite the playful anecdote, Irvin credits his long-lasting marriage to Sandy Harrell — spanning over 35 years — as central to his life. They married in 1990 and have raised four children together, including a daughter from a previous relationship.

Irvin also discussed how Sandy is battling early-onset Alzheimer’s. To ensure her comfort, the family has arranged 24-hour in-home care so she can remain in her home and live with dignity.
