BRISTOL, Tenn. — While much of the sports world is focused on football this weekend, one NASCAR team is paying tribute to a conservative trailblazer who left an indelible mark on America’s national consciousness.
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) drivers Austin Dillon, Kyle Busch, and Austin Hill will carry memorial decals at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend in honor of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot earlier this week.
The decals were first reported by OutKick and are visible on RCR cars during the Bristol race weekend:
All Cup and Xfinity drivers for Richard Childress Racing will have a special Charlie Kirk decal on their cars for both races, simply saying “In Memory of Charlie Kirk (1993-2025).”
Solid move here by NASCAR, but really RCR. It’s also not surprising, given the fact that Richard Childress is A) a good dude, and B) a huge Donald Trump guy.
…
Dillon, by the way, spoke about Kirk on Friday. To my knowledge, this is the first time an athlete has been asked about the assassination since it happened earlier this week.
“It makes me want to get into the Bible more and learn more about Jesus and try to spread the Word whenever I can,” he said.
The RCR tribute comes after the White House issued a proclamation on Sept. 10, ordering U.S. flags flown at half-staff through Sunday, Sept. 14 — a rare national honor signaling the level of recognition Kirk received.
On Thursday night, Bristol Motor Speedway held a moment of silence before the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Kirk was among several honored.
Others included victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and members of the racing community who recently passed.
