The Texas Longhorns softball team clinched their first NCAA national championship by defeating Texas Tech 10–4 in Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series finals on Friday, June 6. The victory marks a historic milestone for the program, which had previously fallen short in the 2022 and 2024 championship series.

The Longhorns set the tone early, scoring five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from second baseman Leighann Goode. They extended their lead with a grand slam by third baseman Mia Scott in the fourth inning.

Sophomore pitcher Teagan Kavan delivered a standout performance throughout the series, earning the WCWS Most Outstanding Player award. She pitched 31⅔ consecutive innings without allowing an earned run during the tournament.

Head coach Mike White, in his seventh season with Texas, emphasized building the team through high school recruiting rather than relying heavily on transfers. This strategy paid off, as 17 of the 20 players on the roster began their collegiate careers with the Longhorns.

Texas Tech’s ace pitcher, NiJaree Canady, who had been dominant throughout the tournament, struggled in Game 3, giving up five runs in the first inning. Despite her efforts, the Red Raiders couldn’t recover from the early deficit.

The Longhorns’ championship run concluded with a season record of 56–12, solidifying their place in college softball history.
