During Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham suffered a right knee injury in the second quarter after colliding with Bria Hartley under the basket. She was unable to return, marking the latest injury setback for an already depleted roster.

Cunningham had been a strong contributor — averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and leading the team with a 44.3% three-point percentage. However, the Fever are already without star Caitlin Clark (groin), Aari McDonald (season-ending foot injury), and Sydney Colson (season-ending knee injury) — making this a significant blow.

Indiana currently holds an 18–16 record, having lost four of their last five games. Despite adversity, they remain in playoff contention at No. 7 seed, showing resilience amid intense challenges.

Cunningham, like the rest of the Fever squad, has spent the season criticizing WNBA officiating, saying she and her teammates take hard fouls that go uncalled because of referees’ perceived anti-Caitlin Clark bias.

Cunningham was fined twice in the past two months for criticizing WNBA referees. After today’s injury, her older sister took to X to put the league on blast.
